Bettina D. Hindin

Bettina represents clients in all aspects of matrimonial and family law, including divorce and separation, equitable distribution, maintenance, child support and support modification, custody and parenting disputes, relocation, parentage, enforcement and post-judgment proceedings, and complex financial disputes. She regularly negotiates and drafts prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements and comprehensive matrimonial settlement agreements.

Her experience is particularly significant in cases involving substantial or complicated marital assets. Bettina has handled matters requiring the valuation and division of closely held businesses, professional practices, real estate and other significant assets, often working with forensic accountants, business valuators, appraisers and other experts.

She has extensive experience in New York’s Supreme and Family Courts and has handled numerous trials, hearings and appeals involving matrimonial, custody, support and family law issues. She is also certified to serve as an Attorney for the Child and is a Certified Divorce Mediator.

Bettina has been at the forefront of the evolution of family law beyond the traditional marital model. Long before many firms developed dedicated LGBTQIA+ family law practices, she was representing same-sex couples and families confronting legal questions involving relationships, parentage, custody and family formation. Her work also encompasses surrogacy and assisted reproductive technology, and she was the first attorney in Nassau County, New York, to file parentage and surrogacy papers following New York’s legalization of gestational surrogacy.

Her involvement in family law extends beyond the courtroom. Bettina is a frequent author, lecturer and commentator on matrimonial and family law and on emerging legal issues affecting families. Her work has addressed developments in child custody, reproductive law, coercive control, technology and artificial intelligence in legal practice, and the changing legal structure of the American family. She has also appeared on national television, including MSNBC and CNN, as a commentator on matrimonial, family law and reproductive-law issues.

Bettina brings an unusually broad perspective to her work. After decades of litigating cases, negotiating agreements, arguing appeals and watching family law evolve socially, technologically and legally, she approaches each matter with both an understanding of established law and an appreciation of where the law is heading.

Her professional standing has been recognized repeatedly throughout her career. Bettina has held an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell for more than 15 years, the organization’s highest peer rating for professional ability and ethical standards. She has been selected as a New York Super Lawyer since 2009, has maintained a 10.0 Avvo rating, and has been included in the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers, New York’s Women Leaders in the Law, and among leading family law practitioners in the Tri-State area.
